Paediatric Dentistry

One of the most important aspects of childhood development is good oral health. To support the overall health and well-being of local kids, we offer the Sutherland Shire paediatric dentistry services from our surgery in Miranda.

Healthy baby teeth enable children to eat solid foods and are essential in the development of their jawbone, ensuring there is enough space for adult teeth to come through in the correct position. Baby teeth also help with sounding words correctly as children learn to speak.

The Importance of Preventative Paediatric Dentistry

It is important children are introduced to dental visits early – we recommend the first visit occurs when they are around three-years-old. This can help reduce anxiety about going to the dentist, plus it allows your dentist to monitor development and cleaning habits.

Adult teeth start coming in when children are aged 6-7. It is important children have the best dental care available as they transition from their baby teeth to their adult teeth. Regular dentist visits mean early detection, and when abnormalities or decay are caught early, then treatment can be minimal and less invasive.

We can also offer orthodontic assessment and treatment in young children, around the age of six. This is referred to as interceptive orthopaedics and is based on the philosophy of early intervention to minimise the need for extensive orthodontic treatment in later years.

Your Child's First Visit

Our entire team go out of their way to ensure these visits are as relaxing and enjoyable as possible and are a positive experience.

We like to see children every six months for regular check-ups and cleanings, but some children who are more at risk of tooth decay may benefit from more frequent check-ups.

We can discuss how frequently your child will benefit from dental check-ups during your first visit.
